A SLOW JAM STUDY SESSION AT THE MUSIC CLUB: GIVEON - BELOVED

There’s something sacred about hearing new music in the right environment, one that slows you down, pulls you in and reminds you why you fell in love with R&B in the first place. That’s exactly what happened at The Music Club, hosted by That Slow Jam Party and powered by Sony Music Canada.

Picture this: fifteen R&B lovers tucked into an intimate room, notebooks open, hearts open, collectively taking in Giveon’s new album the way music used to be consumed. No distractions. No skipping. No half-listening while scrolling. Just the art, the emotion, and the moment.

Lissa Monet and Yonathan guided us through a song-by-song breakdown, each track paired with a thought-provoking prompt. We weren’t just listening, we were reflecting. Journaling. Processing feelings that belonged to us and feelings that belonged to the music. Every song opened a new door, and every door led to a bigger conversation about real life, love, loss, accountability, hope, all the things R&B has always held space for.

And the room?
Beautifully diverse.

Different ages, backgrounds, genders, experiences, yet somehow everyone understood each other. It was one of those rare spaces where people were genuinely listening, not debating. Sharing, not performing. You could feel the collective “oh wow, I felt that too” ripple through the room more than once.

Giveon’s album was the perfect choice for this format. It’s rooted in real-life emotion, the type you can’t help but see yourself in, and you could tell everyone in that space had lived at least one line of that project.

What struck me most was the nostalgia. This session reminded me of the excitement we used to feel when an artist dropped. When we actually sat with music instead of letting an algorithm shuffle it into oblivion. When albums were moments, not just content.

This is how music should be consumed.
Dissected. Discussed. Felt.
With community, intention and time.

Huge kudos to That Slow Jam Party for curating such an intentional, grounding experience and holding a safe space for people to connect… not just with music, but with themselves and each other.

More of this, please.

THE MUSIC

If you haven’t pressed play on Giveon’s new album Beloved yet, do yourself a favour and make time for it. We listened to it track-by-track at The Music Club, and it hit in a way only honest R&B can, reflective and rooted in real emotion.

It’s the kind of project you sit with, not skim through. Whether you’re healing, remembering, or just craving something that feels true, Beloved is worth the full listen. Put your phone down, put your heart up and let it meet you where you are.

the music club experience

This video is a small window into the listening session we shared at The Music Club for Giveon’s new album Beloved. It doesn’t capture everything such as the full conversations, the journal prompts, the quiet moments of recognition but it gives you the essence of what it felt like to slow down and really listen. If you’ve been craving community, intention, or just a different way to experience music, consider this your invitation into the room with us.
